Down Syndrome Ireland celebrates Ice Cream Fundays

Let's talk about something fun... and delicious!

This June, Down Syndrome Ireland is once again celebrating Ice Cream Fundays, and you're invited to join in! For the past 20 years, families, schools, and communities all over Ireland have participated in this lovely tradition to raise vital funds to support people with Down syndrome.

It's a fun way to contribute to the important work Down Syndrome Ireland does. This year's fundraiser takes place from June 16th to June 20th.

You can host an ice cream party at home, in your school, or in your local community. The team at Down Syndrome Ireland will send you everything you need to make it easy and fun.

And this year, there's something extra special...

I'll be running a short online session to teach Lámh signs to all schools that register and want to take part. We'll learn signs like ice cream, chocolate, friends, and more, perfect for your Ice Cream Funday!

All participating schools will join the session together, and I'll be visiting your classroom virtually on the big screen. I can't wait to say hello to everyone and practise Lámh signs with you all!

Plus, Down Syndrome Ireland has created a lovely activity pack for schools, full of colouring pages, crosswords, and games to help children keep practising their signs and learning more about Down syndrome and inclusion.

Why this fundraiser matters

Whether you're a parent or a professional, you'll know how difficult it is to access services for children with disabilities in Ireland. This lack of support can have a lifelong impact. But with the right help, children with Down syndrome can thrive.

That's why fundraisers like this one are so important.

Down Syndrome Ireland has developed an innovative Speech and Language Therapy Assistants programme. It offers weekly, targeted support to children who need it most. Since it launched in September 2024, the programme has delivered nearly 4,000 sessions across 9 counties, and in 2025, it's already expanded to 17 counties.

But we still have a long way to go. Many children are still missing out.

With your support, we can reach more families. Just €765 can fund a full year of therapy for one child. Imagine the difference that could make, not just now, but for their future.
